Switching to solar energy can be good for the environment and good for your wallet. Oceanvolt is here to help you start your solar energy journey with ease! From Victoria to the Gulf Islands, Oceanvolt is a trusted guide for homeowners like you to gain energy independence. Our team of licensed electricians is here to take care of everything from site assessment to flipping the switch on your energy independence! Here is how we plan your solar panels, home battery, and car charger setup.
Home Solar Installation Site Assessment
First, we give you a free initial estimate. To start, you send Oceanvolt a photo of your home electrical panel. We also look at your past power bills to see your energy use in kilowatt-hours. Then, we use specialized solar software and satellite imagery of your roof to estimate your annual solar production and bill savings.
Next is the site assessment. Oceanvolt will visit your house to confirm our design. We measure the roof, check your electrical capacity, and look for shade. If your roof is too shaded, we won’t beat around the bush and will let you know if solar is not a good fit.
Solar systems last 25 to 35 years. If your roof is old, you should replace it before we start your residential solar installation. If your roof space is limited, a ground-mount solar array is another great option that is also easy to clean.
After the site assessment, we design a solar plan for your budget and energy needs. Our team will share a document of what the panels will look like and how much money you can save. Then, we handle all the permits and the net metering application to connect to the grid.
Finally, our licensed electricians install and commission your system. We finish with a final walk-through so you know how everything works.

Home Battery Backup
Batteries save the day during power outages and store any unused power generated by your solar panels. Our battery site assessment is much like what we do for home solar installations. Our team at Oceanvolt will review your daily power use to spot energy consumption trends. We check if switching to BC Hydro’s Peak Saver Program makes sense for your power needs.
If you want backup power for storms, we can check your panel to see how many circuits we can connect. Do you want to backup the whole house? Oceanvolt’s installers are licensed electricians who can reconfigure your electrical system so you do not have to pick specific circuits! Oceanvolt will find the best fit for you and help with your BC Hydro battery rebate.

EV Charger Installation
Getting a vehicle charger quote can be very quick with our team’s help. Just send three to five photos of your electrical panel and the side of your house. We use those photos and satellite images to plan the job. Most folks’ car chargers are installed 10 to 30 feet from their main electrical panel. Once we receive your photos, Oceanvolt will send you a quote, usually without a site visit.
How Long Until I Can Start Using Solar Energy?
Oceanvolt can usually complete your energy independence project within 6 to 12 weeks. How long your project takes depends on our current schedule, whether it’s summer or winter, and BC Hydro permit approvals. Oceanvolt takes care of BC Hydro permits for you. These permits can take as little as a week or as long as 8 weeks, depending on your property’s classification with BC Hydro (simple, Complex A, Complex B).
